In
an effort to make medical health care free and accessible to rural and urban
poor communities, Cherry Mobile held an Operation Pap Smear and Operation Tuli
in April, serving more than 60 women in Delpan, Manila, and almost a hundred
male children in San Andres, Manila.
The
Operation Tuli initiative was held in order to help the beneficiaries
appreciate the health benefits of circumcision, such as reduced risk of acquiring
Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and other sexually transmitted diseases
(STD’s), penile cancer, and urinary tract infection (UTI).
Likewise,
the Operation Pap Smear encouraged women to actively seek health care
assistance and prevent cervical cancer. Cervical cancer is the second most
common malignancy in the Philippines but a few women were able to detect it in
its early stages because they could not afford to undergo preventive measures.
With the Operation Pap Smear, Cherry Mobile aimed not only to provide one-time
medical assistance, but also to increase their level of awareness of the
importance of preventive measures against cervical cancer and to empower them
in accessing essential health care.
